First attempt at gingham crochet, and Iโm officially hooked! ๐
Completed May 2026
This gingham plaid crochet zippered pouch combines black, white, and gray yarn for a classic, sturdy checkered look. It is the perfect size for a wristlet.
Iโve wanted to try the plaid look for a while now, and this little zippered pouch felt like the perfect canvas to test out the color-carrying technique. Blending black, white, and gray to get that classic gingham look takes a little bit of concentration, but the secondary color blocks are so satisfying to watch materialize.
To give the pouch immediate structure and keep the yarn from stretching out, I actually crocheted this right over a premade black canvas pouch. I started by creating a foundation single crochet round long enough to wrap around the bag (ensuring the stitch count was a multiple of 6), stitched that foundation chain to the top of the canvas pouch, and then I was off to the races with the stitch pattern. I finished it off with a matching black wrist strap for easy carrying!
